The faceted blue topaz catches the light in small flashes that shift across every facet with the slightest movement. The cool blue of the topaz brings to mind a winter sky just after dawn. The pendant on its thin chain sits low on the neckline, and its simple, classic form never distracts from the stone, leaving the line of the neck open and light.

For this piece we chose a topaz of exceptionally clean, saturated colour, without a trace of clouding, which at this size of stone is not common. Silver is rising in price, and good coloured stones are becoming harder to find, so buying a pendant like this now makes sense price-wise. The core is refined European silver 925, and it is precisely this fineness that confirms the purity of the alloy, free of nickel and harmful additives. On top lies a layer of 18-carat gold meeting the vermeil standard, attested by the stamped V mark, and it is this gold, not the silver, that touches the skin. The whole piece is signed with the French maker's mark, which vouches for the metal's origin.

In spring this pendant pairs well with a pastel trench coat and a silk scarf tied loosely at the neck, the blue of the topaz echoing the coat's cool tones. A light-coloured bag and understated makeup round out this restrained yet striking look. It works just as well with a simple top with an open neckline, where the stone remains the only point of colour. This is jewelry to wear often, not only on special occasions.
